No. 71 - Friends Don’t Let Friends Auto-Draft

Welcome to the beginning of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast's 2015 Pre-Season Series! Elan and Brian are officially turning the page on the offseason, and focusing now on getting you prepped and ready for those imminent draft day decisions.

On this episode, we comb through the default draft rankings that dictate the drafting priorities of so many poolies, and then pick out the guys who are rated suspiciously high and unthinkably low. We break it down from top to bottom: from an overranked forward at 45th overall, to an NHL newbie ranked at 712th, and everywhere in between.

Also, have Elan and Brian found this year's version of the Stastny vs. Pavelski bet?

Players discussed on this episode include Kyle Okposo, Anders Lee, Artemi Panarin, Teuvo Teravainen, Nick Bjugstad, Alex Barkov, Torey Krug, Chris Kreider, Zdeno Chara, James van Riemsdyk, Ryan McDonagh, David Backes, Matt Duchene, Boone Jenner, Hampus Lindholm, Bryan Little, Ondrej Palat, Derek Stepan, Michael del Zotto, Erik Johnson, Ryan O'Reilly, Alex Tanguay, Mathieu Perreault, Shawn Matthias, Jake Muzzin, James Wisniewski, John Klingberg and more.

Also, have you heard about our new fantasy league that we're designing from the bottom up to be the most fun, most competitive fantasy hockey league ever? We fill in some of the remaining blanks about how we're setting up the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey League, and invite you to become a patron and compete against us and a whole league full of other fantasy hockey fanatics.

No. 70 - Crossing the Line

Every year, some NHL forwards make that esteemed leap from being pretty good point-getters to being all-out point-producing wizards. There's also the flipside: once-reliable top end scorers who find themselves moving in the other direction, to the point that they're suddenly not worth the high pick or keeper protection status that they've enjoyed for years on end.

In this week's episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey PodcastElan and Brian pick out a handful of highly-regarded forwards that are crossing the line-- in either direction-- that separates the great fantasy producers from the elite. We go deep to give you all the reasons why some players should now be considered amongst the cream of the fantasy crop, and why there are others that you might want to let fall a couple more draft rounds than you normally would.

Do you have a suggestion for a player that's crossing the line that we didn't cover on this week's show? Tweet us @keepingkarlsson to let us know who we missed!

Players discussed on this episode include: Vladimir Tarasenko, Eric Staal, Thomas Vanek, Jakub Voracek, Daniel Sedin, Henrik SedinOndrej Palat, Corey Perry, Nicklas Backstrom, Filip Forsberg and more.

No. 69 - Fantasy Hockey Architecture 102

This was supposed to be an off-week for the show, but the feedback and follow-up questions from last week's introductory course in Fantasy Hockey Architecture have coaxed us back to our mics this week. So lucky you, here's another episode to add to the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast 2015 Offseason Series canon!

In this edition of the show, Elan and Brian get around to a couple fantasy hockey league design features that went unaddressed on last week's extensive guide to building or finding the best fantasy hockey setup to suit your needs.

We specifically touch on roster spots, minimum goalie start requirements, bench sizes, dealing with inactive owners and more.

No. 68 - Fantasy Hockey Architecture 101

As the line between fantasy hockey offseason and preseason begins to blur, the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast is all about arming you with the knowledge you need to get yourself into a hockey pool for 2015-16.

Elan and Brian have fielded a lot of requests over the last couple seasons for a fantasy hockey primer: "How do I start a league? What are the different types of leagues? How do I draft a team? Which type of league gives me the most fun, most competitive fantasy experience?" In this episode of the show, we go down the fantasy commissioner rabbit hole to explain the pros and cons of different league formats, rule setups, day-to-day management options and everything else that you'll need to know to design or find the best fantasy league for you.

And finally, Elan and Brian put their money where their mouth is and reveal the first details of their blueprints for the Keeping Karlsson Patrons Fantasy Hockey League (KKPFHL), which will have a much cooler and catchier name when we think of one. Listen to the latter part of this episode to find out how we're constructing our amazing league-to-be, as well as how to get in on the action for the KKPFHL's inaugural 2015-16 season!
