No. 121 - Dzingel All The Way

Will Mikko Rantanen meet high expectations in year one? Has Radko Gudas metamorphosed into an offensive force? Can the league's best five-on-five goal-scoring team continue being that after losing their best player to injury? Is there a chance for the newly-signed Hampus Lindholm to actually do anything on a crowded Anaheim blueline? How are Talbot, Dubnyk, and Rask doing so well? Is it time to rename the Habs' powerplay after one of its featured players? Hanifin or Matheson or Severson? And what about Carlson and the other slumping superstars in Washington? And Nashville!?

The answers to those questions, along with news and analysis on your latest NHL injuries, outjuries, line changes, hot streaks, cold streaks and miscellany in another jam-packed episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast.

No. 120 - Werenski or Die

Afraid you've missed a single hockey news item or note from the past week? Or that you're misreading the numbers while trying to make sense of the outlandish player performances to date? Let this brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast be your antidote!

Pearson-mania all over again? Matthews a top ten scorer? Is there an impressive Canuck? Is Brouwer a more interesting human being than fantasy own? Do we have a Jack Campbell sighting on the horizon? Time to panic about Panik? Jimmy How-muchlongercanhepossiblykeepthisup? Boone no longer a boon for fantasy owners? Montoya earning greater share of the starts?

Elan begins by going way off script to officially anoint the heir of his hashtag-team allegiance for this season, and then gets to a welcome group of outjuries that are shaking up depth charts, including a new opportunity for a returned St Louis Blue, and a way out of the doghouse for a Boston Bruin.

Then it's over to injuries, where we draw particular attention to a new second-best power play option in Pittsburgh, weak goalie depth in Arizona and LA.

Taking a tour of hot streaks around the league, Elan and Brian work to figure out when two overachieving Blackhawks may come down to earth, whether a Detroit blue-liner has hope of regaining his form of yesteryear, which ice time distribution quirks are favouring which Hurricanes, and whether Huberdeau's replacement in Florida is earning his keep on the top line. Elan also gets pretty sad about not having enough patience for a certain Leaf centreman to contribute to his roster, and gets very un-sad about a second line centre in Colorado.

The guys also examine the meaning of roster moves made in Columbus and Anaheim, and line changing madness happening in Calgary, Nashville and New Jersey-- the last of which has Elan wondering whether there's more than one fantasy relevant Devil to be owned.

The show wraps up with some early snoozer candidates, including this year's edition of a quality winger struggling in Vancouver, a non-Okposo in Brooklyn, a couple goalies struggling in Canadian creases, and an Atlantic PPQB with nothing to show for his efforts.

Players discussed on this episode include Carey Price, Richard Panik, Auston Matthews, Jimmy Howard, Tanner Pearson, Zach Werenski, Shayne Gostisbehere, Mike Green, Jaden Schwartz, David Perron, Nail Yakupov, Patrice Bergeron, Ryan Spooner, Michael Stone, Alex Goligoski, Brayden Schenn, Matt Read, Tanner Pearson, Mike Smith, Louis Domingue, Justin Peters, Jeff Zatkoff, Peter Budaj, Jack Campbell, Patrick Sharp, Ales Hemsky, Brett Ritchie, Radek Faksa, Justin Schultz, Marc-Andre Fleury, Brian Campbell, Duncan Keith, Jonathan Marchessault,  Lee Stempniak, Victor Rask, Jeff Skinner, Sebastian Aho, Teuvo Teravainen, Elias Lindholm, Alex Killorn, Petr Mrazek, Nazem Kadri, Kari Lehtonen, Sergey Bobrovsky, William Nylander, Mitch Marner, Matt Duchene, Mikhail Grigorenki, Mikko Rantanen, Shea Theodore, Brandon Carlo, Torey Krug, Cam Fowler, Sami Vatanen, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Boone Jenner, Johnny Boychuk, Kris Versteeg, Troy Brouwer, Viktor Arvidsson, Kevin Fiala, TJ Brodie, Brian Elliott, Frederik Andersen, Loui Eriksson, Brandon Sutter, Andrew Ladd and more.

No. 119 - Auston Translation

Boxscores! Line juggling! On-ice events! Terrible goaltending performances! They're all finally here after a long season of waiting, and the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast is here to catch you up on all that you need to know about the first five days of NHL regular season play.

First off, what the heck should you do with your team post-draft? Should you tinker with adds/drops or stand pat? Elan and Brian dish out some advice on early season management strategies, describing how they evaluate and react to the first handful of games played in a season.

Next, they dig into the first week's most tantalizing performances, rolling through a list of the vets, rookies and tweeners who are scoring above a point-per-game pace at this early stage, and making the call on whether they're 'add now!!'s or wait-and-sees.

Elan and Brian then go over a handful of injuries, specifically speculating on what the heck might happen in LA's crease. A discussion of players on cold streaks-- or, well, whatever you'd call guys who are scoreless in back to back games to start the season-- rounds out the show.

Players discussed on this episode include Connor McDavid, Brad Marchand, Auston Matthews, Jonathan Marchesseault, David Pastrnak, Richard Panik, Joe Colborne, Leon Draisaitl, Paul Stastny, Nail Yakupov, the STL D corps, Erik Karlsson, Zack Smith, Chris Kreider, Pavel Buchnevich, Rick Nash, Mika Zibanejad, Patrick Laine, Mark Scheifele, Aleksander Barkov, Jaromir Jagr, Mitch Marner, Nazem Kadri, Oscar Klefbom, Andrej Sekera, Jake Gardiner, Nikita Zaitsev, every other Leaf, Blake Wheeler, Nik Ehlers, Mathieu Perreault, Jarome Iginla, Matt Duchene, Martin Hanzal, Radim Vrbata, Christian Dvorak, Jonathan Quick, Jeff Zatkoff, Peter Budaj, Ryan O'Reilly, Kyle Okposo, PA Parenteau, Taylor Hall, Travis Zajac, Kris Versteeg, Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan, Daniel Tkachuk, Rickard Rakell, Jakob Silfverberg, Nick Ritchie, Cam Fowler, Devin Setoguchi, Jeff Carter, Dwight King, Seth Griffith, Teemu Pulkkinen, Mike Condon, Tomas Vanek, Sean Couturier, Bradyen Schenn, Zach Werenski, Seth Jones, Brian Elliott, Chad Johnson, Cam Ward, Eddie Lack, John Tavares, Andrew Ladd, Jason Chimera, Josh Bailey, Artemi Panarin, Jiri Hudler, Patrick Eaves, Dougie Hamilton, Dennis Wideman, Travis Konecny and more.

No. 118 - Dinged Crosby

Two sleeps until the NHL regular season begins, but the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast is already in full swing with a new episode jam-packed with all of the latest hockey news and fantasy spin.

We start with two awful real-life injuries that have an urgent fantasy impact, suggesting which Penguins and Panthers may get or take a bump while Crosby and Huberdeau are on the shelf.

Then, Elan and Brian turn their attention to the NHL's waiver wire, where 3 more-than-serviceable players sit after being surprisingly let go in advance of the season opener. In particular, Brian plays the role of wet blanket to perfection by doubting whether Ondrej Pavelec's waiving means clear skies ahead for Hellebuyck, and also provides his dream scenario for P.A. Parenteau in 2016-17.

The guys then roll through some of the season's newest Calder Trophy candidates as news trickles out of which prospects are making their teams out of camp, with stops in Philadelphia, Chicago, Anaheim, Toronto, Columbus and Montreal.

Finally, we share all the opening night line combos we've seen and mine them for hints at fantasy fortunes in the year ahead, zeroing in on a top-line winger in Detroit, a questionable piece in Ottawa's top six, an expected shift in Chicago, a rising youngster in Boston, and a multi-generational combo in Arizona.

And still, there's more! The Yakupov trade, how to handle injured players, whether to trade for injured players, RFA situations, last-minute IR stashes, pre-season scoring leaders.. and tons more info that'll give you the early upper-hand in your fantasy pool as we head into the season.
Players discussed on this episode include Sidney Crosby, Nail Yakupov, David Perron, Kris Russell, Jonathan Huberdeau, Jonathan Marchessault, Alex Steen, Kevin Shattenkirk, Jussi Jokinen, Michael del Zotto, Ivan Provorov, Travis Konecny, Brayden Schenn, Joonas Korpisalo, Sergei Bobrovsky, Marian Gaborik, Nikita Kucherov, Johnny Gaudreau, Hampus Lindholm, Rasmus Ristolainen, Rickard Rakell, Nick Ritchie, Jacob Trouba, Ondrej Pavelec, Connor Hellebuyck, Michael Hutchinson, P.A. No. 117 - Sold (The KKUPFL Auction Incident)

On this week's episode Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, we try something different, giving you a behind the scenes, unedited and uncut look at the Keeping Karlsson Ultimate Patron Fantrax League's Championship Division auction draft.

Elan and Brian have a quick chat to open the show about lessons they may or may not have learned from their super competitive auction draft experiences. We then share the live broadcast of the KKUPFL Tier 1 auction draft, hosted by Elan and Jeff Good, which Brian repeatedly tries to join only to have to suddenly leave when players he wants get nominated. We laugh, we cry, we talk about the fantasy value of players as they're drafted, we heap criticism upon Brian's real-time decisions whenever possible.

Later this week, keep an eye out for our interview with Peter Harling of Dobber Prospects Radio where we'll offer up some thoughts on which rookies are ready to make a fantasy impact in 2016-17, and then we'll be back with our next episode about all the preseason comings and goings on Monday, October 10.
See the auction draft results at http://www.keepingkarlsson.com/blog, and view the live auction video on our youtube channel at http://www.keepingkarlsson.com/youtube.
